Getting older and starting to feel justified in your moaning about the aches and pains caused by a lifetime of falling on concrete? Prepare to have your chips pissed all over as Tony Hawk does 50 tricks at 50, which he “created and/or pioneered” – this addendum protects him against libel suits from those who might not agree that he invented the blindside feeble fakie in the year 2000 – just for shits and giggles. Trick origins aside, this whole clip is 100% ridiculous and, if we had to put money on anyone filming a ’60 tricks at 60′ clip, we’d be chucking wads of cash at the bookies shouting ‘Big Tone, Big Tone!’ Anyone that gets back up and carries on bashing out tricks after that fakie 720 slam is alright in our books and Hawk’s deep bag of tricks means that he throws down everything from the varial/air variations which he pioneered and which is so prevalent in modern vert skating, to obscure inverts from the depths of the 80s, to the highly technical lip trickery whose outer reaches were explored in the early to mid 90s.
If the editing at 1:58 doesn’t make you nearly spit your coffee all over the computer screen then you’re probably not drinking coffee…
“I never imagined being able to skate into my adult life, or that anyone would still care if I did. To celebrate, I did 50 tricks that I’ve created (and/or pioneered on vert). Thanks to all of you that made this dream possible. It’s been an unreal ride, but I’m not done yet.”
For more Birdman hype, cast your eyes back to 2009 and Tony’s summer seaside jaunt to Brighton, accompanied by a crew of fellow aficionados of the adult swingset keen to stoke out the locals and have their chips nicked by passing seagulls…
