Erik Ellington talks the importance of supporting local skate shops, as well as demonstrating the thought process/shoe sawing that went into creating his new shoe for Supra – the Crown Coalition Ellington Vulc. Have a watch, then scroll down for some photos of said shoe and more info…
One of our most popular signature shoes since its 2012 release, the Ellington has been rebuilt in a streamlined construction atop a vulcanized sole for classic skateboarding style and performance.
“The Ellington was a cup sole, kind of a more athletic shoe that I had worked on,” Ellington said. “And after a year, year and a half after it was out, I was skating the Cubas, or the Shotgun, or another vulc shoe, so I was like, “I wonder what it would like like with a vulc sole?”
Ellington took a pair of his mid tops, removed them from their sole and glued them on a vulcanized sole. Pleased with the result, he took a photo of his idea brought to life and sent it to our designers who got to work making the shoe a reality.
“What I wanted was my shoe on a vulcanized sole, and that’s what we did,” Ellington added. “Basically, everything about the way the Ellington was—the upper of it—I wanted to keep, so there was nothing that was really changed aside from the thickness of the padding and stuff like that. Everything was kept from the original.”
For its debut, the Ellington Vulc is available in a tonal black colorway exclusively at Crown Coalition retailers. Comprised of roughly 250 independent skate shops, the Crown Coalition is a federation of core skate shops selected for their efforts to promote grassroots skateboarding at a local level.
