‘re:deckorate’ – re:ply Skateboards Exhibition for SkatePAL

Selling recycled board artwork to raise funds for SkatePAL

re:ply Skateboards are hosting the re:deckorate Exhibition on January the 5th, with art made from recycled boards being sold in order to raise funds for SkatePAL. The exhibition will run until Sunday 25th February, where remaining boards will be put to auction. We did a spotlight on the work re:ply do in Glasgow a couple of years ago and they’re clearly not slowing down – scroll down for a press release and a few examples of the deck art which you’ll be able to get your hands on then, if you find yourself in Glasgow over the next month and a half or even for the opening night tomorrow, get yourself to Bar Gandolfini, 64 Albion Street and have a good time in support of a good cause!
re:deckorate is an exhibition of recycled skateboards, reimagined and redesigned by talented artists, graphic designers, printmakers and photographers throughout the UK. Curated by re:ply skateboards, the work will
be sold to raise funds for skateboarding charity Skatepal.
All re:ply skateboards are upcycled, rejuvenated, old or used skateboards. They
see base material where others see waste. By applying creativity, working hard and by using the right tools for the job, re:ply create products of high quality that otherwise would be placed in landfill. re:ply organise fun community events, exhibitions and workshops, where they introduce people to music, art, screen printing techniques, and of course skateboarding!
Their aim is to generate an accepting environment, by getting people involved and encouraging creativity and freedom of expression. re:ply has collaborated with Skatepal – a non-profit charity organisation, working with communities throughout Palestine to enhance the lives of young people and promote the benefits of skateboarding – and a team of 50 artists, graphic designers, printmakers and photographers to bring you the re:deckorate exhibition.
Artists were given the opportunity to create a board, whilst interpreting through their chosen media the concepts of ‘freedom’, ‘community ‘or ‘empowerment’. These concepts are strongly represented within skateboarding culture and form a huge part of the Skatepal ethos.
The exhibition will be on show, in Bar Gandolfi, from Friday 5th January until Sunday 25th February. Buyers will have 2 opportunities to purchase a re:deckorate skateboard. First – at opening launch – at the advertised reserve price. Second – at closing auction – where you run the risk of having to bid a higher price…
The opening launch takes place at 4pm on January 5th. Unsold boards will go to auction on February 25th. A soft launch will be held for artists and press from 4pm on January 4th.
