Bristo Square was redeveloped and made into the skateable mecca that we all know it as in 1983, with the University of Edinburgh surely not expecting the steadily growing influx of skateboarders drawn to its open space and surrounding ledges. It wasn't long before it became central to Edinburgh's scene as both a meeting point to head out into the city, or just a place to skate/lurk in whatever ratio seemed appropriate at the time.

Fast forward to now, and the skateboarders of Edinburgh are losing what has become a part of their skate history - the space where skateboarders, students and pissheads rubbed shoulders is in the early stages of being replaced, taking with it the skateable architecture which drew skaters to it in the first place. Over the next few pages you'll find some of our favourite photos and bits of footage from Bristo Square, so get stuck in and remind yourself of the good times!

It's probably best to start off this post with a dayglo-drenched slice of nostalgia in the form of Wayne Fenlon's 1993 scene video. This features plenty of Bristo Square session footage, as do the other two full length videos on his Youtube account...basically the next rainy day's viewing sorted!

To the skateboarding world at large Colin Kennedy is probably the first name that springs to mind in connection with the spot, with his first couple of Blueprint sections chock full of Bristo bangers. His section in 'A Mixed Media' starts off with a good 'un (that nollie!), then continues to squeeze in a couple more clips of the spot into a minute and a half's worth of shredding.

John Rattray throws a killer line down halfway through his section from 'Waiting for the World', which if you haven't seen then you definitely need to drop what you are currently doing and get educated...

OG skater, OG spot, along with the general radness offered by Kennedy's section from 'First Broadcast'.

An evening at the Square with Zander Ritchie and other local heads. More footage of Bristo Square is to be found in the Harvest section of Focus Skateshop and Zander's recent video 'Weather Permitting', as well as presumably in the rest of the video which hasn't yet found its way online...so go grab a copy from Focus, put it on and raise a glass to the fallen spot!
