The éS “Game of Skate” UK final round-up!

Sunday saw the UK éS Game of SKATE final, in Platt Field’s park, Manchester. The regional winners each made the journey from their respective reaches of the UK for the final, except for Bruce McKay (winner of the Aberdeen heat, hosted by Boarderline skate shop), who unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. Get well soon Bruce!

The 5 finalists were all competing for a place in the European final and the prestige of being crowned UK éS Game of Skate champ 2010. A lot to play for!

UK GoS finalists (L to R): Paddy Maguire (Manchester/Note winner), Joe Marks (Derby/Rollersnakes winner), Tom Sivyour (Southsea/Bored winner), Steve McBriarty (Newcastle/Native winner), Pat Garrahy (Bristol/Fifty Fifty winner).
The judge and MC for the days proceedings was Woody, éS sales agent and former team rider.
The 5 finalists were divided into 1 group of 2 and 1 group of 3. Names were pulled out of a hat to keep things fair. Then the ol’ "Paper, Scissors, Stone" to determine who starts.
The judges had a prime vantage point from the top of the flat bank.
First heat was Joe, Pat and Tom. All 3 had serious flat-ground skills, with some hefty moves thrown down. All kept clean and sportsman-like by the polite contestants.
Pat and Joe put in a valiant fight, but in the end Tom saw them both off for a place in the final round. Next up was Steve from Newcastle Vs Paddy from Ireland (via Manchester). Again, a close call but Steve eventually stomped home to win the heat.
The judges were impressed by the level of skating.
A well-pitched battle, but in the end Steve conquered all with a switch tré revert that Tom couldn’t muster. Tough call, but there’s only one winner in Game of Skate! Congrats Steve, see you in the European final!
