Last Orders: Liam Sproat

Most people will probably remember Liam Sproat from his short section on Unabombers 2006 video “Urbane Mob”. Though he’s not one for consistently being in the public eye, you may have noticed you haven’t heard anything of him for quite some time now. In September last year, Liam moved to Alicante for 12 months to become and English teacher as part of his degree at Sheffield University. Whilst living out there he has been shooting photos for a variety of Spanish mags and racking up footage for the upcoming Unabomber video, slated for release later this year.

Following on from last weeks Colin Kennedy “Last Orders”, we contacted the power midget and got him to divulge his list of Spanish based lasts…

Last…

Person you spoke to in English: Me Mum, although it was more mono-sylabic responses hungover from a full weekend of Spanish carnival. Sorry mum! haha!

Person you spoke to in Spanish: Some Columbian woman who works in the 24 shop near my flat, for some reason I think she was bored and wanted to know my life history and what I was doing in Spain.

Trick you filmed: A wallride frontside nollie out with my mate from the local skatepark in Alicante.

Photo you shot: A back smith on a ledge, in what my mates call the marble paradise.

Country you visited: Apart from Spain where I am now, errr… that must be France. Me and the ‘Tuesday Night Mini Ramp Club’ from The House skatepark in Sheffield went to Marseilles for a week! Good time, miss you guys, I can now go frontside you’ll all be pleased to hear! haha!

Thing you skated in your hometown: Must have been Wakey College banks, and if you’ve not been there you have no idea how gnarly Ben Groves frontside flip is! Trust me it’s not possible!

Carpetworld session: Hate to admit it but I actually think the last time was when I got smacked by two little scally knobheads about 5 years ago!

Trick you learned: Yesterday I learned full-cab flips on a quarter.

Trick you lost: Frontside 360’s, honestly proper gutting!

Book you read: A Hora Da Estrela by Clarice Lispector, and it has got to be one of the best books I’ve ever read in my life. It talks about a poor Brazilian woman who was never educated and as she is dying in the street after being knocked over she finally realises that the point of living is in fact that you are alive, and therefore we shouldn’t be so concerned about what we should be doing, and enjoy or find a way to enjoy what we are doing/going to do. Quite dark but eye-opening at the same time.

Time you were outraged: Last weekend was Carnaval in Alicante, and honestly it was an experience, loose women, plenty of booze, fancy dress and good times! I went as an English chav, how very imaginative eh? Haha!

Piece of advice you received: That I need to speak to the Spanish ministry of education because I think they decided to pay me on a ‘let’s see how long he can last without it this month’ basis! Not that I’m complaining or anything!

Album you bought: Must have been Paul Potts’ album. Bought it for me Dad for Christmas, he was well chuffed on it!

Song you sang along to: El Aire de la Calle by Los Delinquentes. Well in to my flamenco now, as I recently found out I had a hidden talent for singing in Spanish, well to flamenco! Haha! Which is pretty weird ‘cause I can’t sing in English to save my life!

Film you watched and enjoyed: Fearless by Jet Li, well down for watching Asian Cinema, especially when there are fight scenes involved.

Film you watched and hated: Honestly I can’t remember!

Skate video you watched from start to finish: ‘Are We There Yet?’ Vans UK skateboard tour!

Skate section you rewound more than once: Janoski’s part in the new habitat video! Definitely impressive!

Skate photo you saw that impressed you: Mike’s flip back-lip on tech-ten in Leeds! Mike has never stopped impressing me with his skateboarding abilities and honestly I don’t think he ever will! Keep it up, bruv!

Website visited: HSBC personal banking, seriously! To see if I had enough money in my English account to buy some more Adidas Gazelle’s!

Thing you downloaded: ‘Stack Shot Billy’ by The Black Keys.

Clip watched on YouTube: A mini-section by Jon Lupfer, that guy who shares a section with Clint Peterson on the new Osiris video! Steez!

Skateboarder who impressed you: My Argentinean mate Lucas. He’s a surfer but he started skating 8 months ago and a week ago he learned frontside wallrides but with the steez of a surfer! So good!

Time you said “never again”: Last week; “Buy another pair of skate shoes to skate in.” After buying some Adidas Gazelle’s from “El Corte Ingles” for 40 euros!

Confectionery product you got addicted to: I always do circles with my sweet addiction, but now I’m on Chocolate Croissants on my break at school, and I’m back on the Mars bars again!

Time you were glad to be in Spain: Everyday.

Time you missed home: Right now doing this, thinking about all the amazing people I’ve left back home in England. Miss you all loads but the weather is so good I don’t want to feel the cold again until I really have to! Haha! Sorry but it’s true! In a bit!
